The big question

Drop scores, good or bad? Should the BAS continue to allow drivers to drop their lowest score of the year, or should all points from the five events count at the year end? We sought opinions from the pits, now you can tell us what you think.

Vinny Gibbons – “All five rounds should count. I’ve been in the position where you have to drop a score, but I think all the rounds should count because that rewards those who go everywhere and race. It might help the underdog a bit, and they don’t drop scores in F1, why should we? If all rounds counted, it would also make the final a better event, you’d have to go”

Donna Jones – “I think it would be better if all five rounds counted. A lot of people make effort to go and race in all five events so it would reward that.”

Alan O’Keeffe – “I think the drop score is a good idea, specially for us in Ireland, not everyone can travel to all the races. And there is more to life than Autograss racing!”

Jo Thompson – “It would be better if all the events counted. You wouldn’t have to think about the drop score, and if an event was abandoned there’d be no need to make up ‘false’ points.”

Steven Graham – “I’d probably favour all five rounds counting. It would make it worthwhile for the ones who race everywhere and stop those who pick and choose their events.”

Michaela Bevans – “When I was in Class One I had the highest score on all five rounds, but lost the championship on drop scores so I’d say count all rounds.”

Mark Grice – “I’d have lost the championship last year if it hadn’t been for the drop score, but I’d prefer all rounds to count. Everyone has a bad day somewhere so things will even themselves out.”

I think why change something that works? in my mind the name of the game is consistency whether its across 4 rounds or five their is arguement for both sides an i guess its a hard call to make. I had the class 7 championship in the bag by round four in 03 but in 04 in the nine it was totally different going down to the last race. I quite like the drop round as it allows for all kind of things life commitments, bad luck etc so because of these reasons id have to opt for keeping the drop round maybe it should go to a vote from all bas registered drivers see what happens an go with the majority as its the drivers it affects ultimately let us decide.
