Several large crashes in recent seasons have put track construction on the agenda.

The June meeting of the Chairmen’s Committee at NASA took a decisive step in the ongoing discussion regarding track contsruction.

Returning to duty after a short break, NASA chairman Keith Matthews chaired the meeting of the committee which has discussed track construction over recent months. “There are a lot of good ideas and we decided that we will agree a final proposal at the October meeting so that it can be ratified at the AGM and put in place for the 2010 season,” said Matthews. “It’s vital that anyone who has an idea or suggestion about track contsruction puts it forward to their League Chairman as soon as possible so that we can include all input in the final discussion.”

Matthews says that the plan is to introduce changes at the tracks used for ‘major’ events first. Among the ideas that have already been discussed is the introduction a wire along the top of fence posts, this aimed at preventing fence posts protruding into cars that roll onto or over the fence. The use of additional rows of  ‘Armco’-type crash barrier at some points of the track are also under considertion.
